The frustration is realβyou need to check your payment, but the site keeps spinning. Before you panic and assume your account has been cancelled, understand that 90% of these errors today are “Client-Side Caching” issues caused by the high traffic volume.
Basically, your browser is trying to use an “old key” to open a “new door,” and the myGov security system is slamming it shut to prevent hacking. Here is how to fix it yourself without waiting 4 hours on the phone.
Am I Banned or Is It Down?
It is crucial to distinguish between a general system crash and an account lock. If the entire site is down, nobody can get in. If it’s just you, you need to act fast.
Checklist: Symptoms of a “Soft Lock”
- [X] The “Loop of Death”: You enter your code, it loads, and sends you back to the login page repeatedly.
- [X] Error RFM-01 / RFM-02: This appears specifically when linking Centrelink to myGov.
- [X] White Screen: The app opens but displays nothing but a white background.
>> DIAGNOSIS: If you see these, your account is safe, but your BROWSER is blocked.
3 Ways to Force a Login
Stop hitting F5. It won’t work. You need to clear the “corrupted” session data. Try these methods in order. Click the cards to reveal the steps.
METHOD 1: INCOGNITO
THE “CLEAN” SLATE
Open a new “Private” or “Incognito” window (Ctrl+Shift+N). Go directly to my.gov.au. Do not use a bookmark. Login manually.
METHOD 2: NUKE CACHE
CLEAR DATA
Browser Settings > Privacy > Clear Browsing Data. Select “Cookies and Cached Images”. Time range: “All Time”. Restart browser.
METHOD 3: DIGITAL ID
BYPASS PASSWORD
Instead of using email/password, select “Continue with Digital ID” (myGovID). This uses a different authentication server path.
Error Code Translation Table
Centrelink error codes are cryptic. We have decoded the most common ones appearing today so you know exactly what is broken.
| ERROR CODE | MEANING | ACTION |
|---|---|---|
| RFM-01 | Session Token Mismatch | Clear Cookies immediately. |
| P500 / 503 | Server Overload | Wait 15 mins. Do not refresh. |
| LAS-102 | Account Locked (Temp) | Wait 60 mins. Too many attempts. |
Don’t Do This (Critical Warning)
When the system is glitching, users often make panic decisions that make things worse. The biggest mistake is trying to create a new account.
π« FATAL ERROR: “CREATE NEW ACCOUNT”
DO NOT try to create a second myGov account using a different email address while the system is down. If you do this, the system will detect duplicate CRN (Customer Reference Number) data and permanently lock both accounts for fraud investigation. You will then have to visit a Service Centre in person to unlock it.
