UAE Corporate Tax 2026: The AED 10,000 Penalty Trap & Registration Deadlines

AED 10,000 FINE ALERT

The Federal Tax Authority (FTA) is no longer giving warnings. If your Trade License was issued in January or February (of any year), your Corporate Tax registration deadline is about to expire.

0 AED Admin Penalty
0 % Standard Tax Rate
0 AED ‘000 Threshold

YOUR DEADLINE IS DETERMINED BY YOUR LICENSE

Unlike VAT, Corporate Tax registration deadlines are staggered based on the month your Trade License was originally issued. Ignoring this specific date triggers the automatic AED 10,000 fine.

CHECK YOUR LICENSE “ISSUE DATE”

Look at your Trade License. Find the “Issue Date” (not the expiry date). The month of issuance dictates your deadline.

Rule: You generally have until the end of the same month to register, but the FTA set specific cutoff dates for 2024-2025 backlog clearing.

CRITICAL DATES FOR EARLY LICENSES

  • License Issued in Jan: Deadline was May 31 (Expired).
  • License Issued in Feb: Deadline was May 31 (Expired).
  • License Issued in Mar: Deadline was June 30.

Urgent: If you missed these, register TODAY. The fine is one-time, but late payment penalties accrue monthly.

YES, FREE ZONES MUST REGISTER

Myth: “I am in a Free Zone, so I am tax-free.”

Fact: You are likely 0% tax (Qualifying Free Zone Person), BUT you MUST REGISTER to claim that 0% status. Failure to register means you are an unregistered taxable entity = AED 10,000 Fine.

ARE YOU A “TAXABLE PERSON”?

Don’t guess. If you check any of these boxes, you are legally required to register immediately.

UAE Company (Mainland or Free Zone)

Any legal entity incorporated in the UAE.

Freelancer with Permit

Individuals with a freelance license/permit generating over AED 1M turnover.

Foreign Company Branch

Foreign entities effectively managed and controlled within the UAE.

THE AED 10,000 REALITY

Administrative Penalty No. 1

Cabinet Decision No. 75 of 2023 is clear. Failure to submit a Tax Registration application within the specified timeline results in an administrative penalty of AED 10,000.

This fine is automated. Once you finally register late, the system will likely flag the late submission date and issue the penalty to your EmaraTax dashboard.

BRUTALLY HONEST FAQ

I HAVE NO PROFIT. DO I REGISTER? +

YES. Corporate Tax is based on registration first, filing second. Even with a loss, you must register and file a “Nil Return”.

CAN I REGISTER MYSELF OR DO I NEED AN AGENT? +

You can do it yourself via EmaraTax using UAE Pass. It takes about 20-30 minutes if you have your Trade License and Passport copies ready. However, for complex Free Zone exemptions, a tax agent is recommended.

IS SALARY TAXED? +

NO. Personal income from employment (salary) is NOT subject to Corporate Tax. This tax applies to Business Entities and Freelancers with business income only.

DISCLAIMER: This is not financial advice. Tax laws in the UAE are subject to updates. Always consult a certified Tax Agent or the Federal Tax Authority (FTA) for your specific case.
